Technological development
and advancement in the west has been very impactful. Due to globalization and
changes, the advancement of technology has made its way in the field of
learning and education. One of the most important change was seen in classrooms
where ICT, Information and Communication Technology has been integrated to make
the process of learning quite easy. Integration of ICT in classroom was seen as
something revolutionary. Moving from primitive method of teaching to modern way
of teaching through integration of ICT was seen as moving from a dark age to
light age. However, despite the benefits of ICT in classrooms, there are
certain issues and challenges in integrating the ICT in classrooms.
The first and foremost
benefit of ICT in learning is that it allows dynamic and cooperative learning
among the students. With the access to the Internet, learning is not limited to
school hours or in school boundary. Instead it gives the learners opportunity
to learn and study wherever and whenever possible.
A rural student can
access information of an urban student and share it to a foreign student, be it
during the school hours or holidays. With access to the Internet, the
dependency of the students on teachers will also be minimal and the student
will be able to know when to explore, how to explore and what to explore from the
internet. When the students explore the information by themselves, it ensure
their attention and concentration on that particular topic or subject, making
them well educated in that particular topic and subject.
However, integrating the ICT in classroom is
not as easy as it is seen. Due to limited financial aid from the government and
the ability to adapt to the modern facilities are the challenges. Making
accessible to ICT requires huge financial support because of expensive
materials. In Bhutan the cost of internet is very high as well as other
electronic equipment are also priced high. The adaptability is also a question,
since ICT in general isn’t common in the field of teaching anywhere in the
country before.
Rightly stated, integration of ICT in teaching learning process has lots of advantages for both teachers as well as students. But it also have some disadvantages too. It makes both teachers and students dependent on ict. Relying completely on ict creates poor studying habits. It drains out the reading habits in hard copy, and divert their interest towards using technology. So i felt that using ict for teaching learning process is not so easy.
ReplyDeleteTo move with the world it is very important for everyone of us to integrate ICT in our teaching thus to provide our students with good knowledge of ICT world
ReplyDeleteAs you stated above, it is absolutely true that ICT plays a pivotal role in daily teachings. Perhaps, integration of ICT should be a part and parcel of lesson.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it must be used with clearly defined objectives not electronic babysitting.
Yes sure it should be monitored and guides by teachers and not merely by children alone. Also there has to be some guidelines and protocols that we must follow
ReplyDeleteHello Tenzin sir,
ReplyDeleteBhutanese education has changed a lot becoz of ICT usage. Today in the ICT equipped schools chalks are replaced by smart boards. ICT has really helped our work to teach children. But however, it has also made many people more lazy. Their hand writing skills are spoiled.
I too agree with you as the use of ICT has really helped the children in remote places though the cost of internet is very high.
ReplyDeleteYes ICT plays vital roles in every teaching subjects in this present juncture. on other hand we can see negative impact by ICT with our young generation. As being a teacher we must weigh the pros and corns of using ICT.
ReplyDeleteBut other thing you must include is after using the ICT in your class, what are significance of that, you need to reflect and need to write some analysis.
The use of ICT has greater advantages in teaching and learning process. You have rightly said that ICT has made the world of teaching a better place and it's true that now we need to move along with ICT in teaching and learning process.
ReplyDeleteSince you have already realized the impact of using ICT facilities in the classrooms of western countries, now what and how have you been planned to bring those techniques in our Bhutanese classrooms, please share with us. It will definitely help all of us.
ReplyDeleteThank you
The use and the advantages of icy were well stated. Though ICT has lots of positive impacts on teaching and learning process, it is important to implement in the real classroom. To implement it effectively in our classroom situation, the teacher should be well versed with ICT knowledge. So we teachers should enhance our skill and knowledge of ict. In additional, resources is a big issue. What is your say on it?
ReplyDeleteI agreed with you sir. It helps a lot
ReplyDeleteYes using ICT in the classroom is not easy because of lack of resources.I do agree
ReplyDeleteIts good that you tried to make use of available facilities and skills to make your teaching lively.Through challenges we learn with new exploration.
ReplyDeleteIntegrated technology like projector are very essential in teaching and learning. It saves time for teachers and at the same time children get more time to explore the taught lesson.
ReplyDeleteIf provided the resources,ICT makes our work much easier. Good to know you have all the resources.
ReplyDeleteAs stated above, ICT plays an important role in teaching and learning in today's world. Although, planning and preparation consumes time but it has greater impact on students' learning. They enjoy learning through new technology. Despite many obstacles you have given the best. Keep going la.
ReplyDeleteI too found that using of ICT gadges it takes us beyond the curriculum and the classroom. It is also easy to acess the latest data and information .
ReplyDeleteYou are true sir. The learning always become meaningful with the use.
ReplyDeleteNice to go through your write-up.As mentioned by many of the above friends use of ICT has both pros and cons.
ReplyDeleteYou are true author, Bhutanese education system as a well has changed a lot from what we had gone through and today just because of the coming of ICT facilities into our classroom.
ReplyDeleteToday in the ICT equipped schools chalks are replaced by smart boards and markers. Projectors are used more that boards, its the sign in the improvement of ICT.
But however, it has also made many people more lazy. Its simple, we know that each coin has its two sides, every advantage is followed by disadvantage. That's why the way how we use and let our students use will make the differences.
Thanks for sharing this informative post sir.
I personally found that using ICT facilities and electronic gadgets in the classroom teaching and learning will not only help to learn easily letting the learners to retain in their memory for the longer period of time but also it will help both the parties to learn bit more than what is prescribed in the curriculum.
ReplyDeleteThus it takes us beyond the curriculum and the classroom exploring to the wider world, big advantage.
Enjoyed reading, thanks.
Yes, children love to learn visually.
